Do you know that black hawthorn is considered to cast a SPELL? Remember the little girls in fairytales whose fingers got pricked by a thorn and they fell under a spell? The thorns of this tree prick real hard and wounds get septic fast. Also it's the black hawthorn that made the crown of thorns for the crucification of Jesus. And hence the tree and flowers are believed to cause a spell.
